Lotta Lavanti On Her Alter Ego ‘Lotta Liina Love’
“I’m Lotta Lavanti. I run Lotta Liina Love, an Instagram account capturing my alter ego—a hyper persona, always over-dressed and over-posed, a semi-sartorial take on what it is to be a modern day influencer. I created the persona to do more organic creative content as an art director for smaller online fashion labels. I was born in Esbo, Finland where both of my parents are from, but I grew up abroad. Mainly between the US (California), Germany (Munich) and China (Shanghai).
“Fashion has always been a part of my life but I never thought of it as a possible career for myself. After high school I wanted to study history and politics in order to work as a diplomat and eventually the UN, but then Tumblr happened at the same time as street style was about to peak. I fell in love with the work of one particular photographer and how he captured clothing, and all of a sudden I found myself in the thick of it all. I was recently featured in Vogue and it feels amazing because now I feel that pushing Lotta Liina Love as an alter ego is semi-validated. It was surreal to be in the same article as Madonna and Alexa Chung. I cried.”
“My mum taught me to not f**k with my ‘natural beauty’ in my youth, especially since my skin is so sensitive, so now I just moisturise the hell out of it. I keep it clean and minimal. For glow, I use liquid highlighter on my cheek bones after I moisturise. For an extra sun-kissed touch (because I live in Denmark where the sun refuses to kiss anyone), I use liquid-tip brown eyeliner to draw on a few extra freckles. My mum has always had an amazing sense of style, a passion we love to share together.”
