How To Wear A Suit (For Every Occasion)

From work to weekend.

It’s the week after weeks of binge eating, drinking, (and er relaxing?) and suddenly it’s back to commute, desk, coffee and we’re wondering whether the break/last year ever existed, and for a minute we were even wondering how to wear a suit?!

How to wear a suit is probably the least of your priorities right now, but in the January blur, it’s a certified way, to instantly fix up (look sharp) with minimal thought or consideration.

It’s no secret that everyone at COH loves a good blazer, but in today’s roundtable discussion, we confirmed that this once corporate wardrobe staple, may be the best, and our most hardworking wardrobe star.

There’s something about the slightly androgynous appeal of structured shoulders that assures us we’re holding our lives (and ourselves) together.

Plus, a good suit is always a timeless investment. Mix and match your blazers and trousers back with everything else you own and you’ll never have ‘nothing to wear’.

The key to pulling-off a suit anytime/anywhere, is playing with colour, fit, fabric and styling.

It’s about looking considered when you want to (i.e. work), and looking like you haven’t tried at all the rest of the time.

Get acquainted with a few cute suits below, and see how we wear them from breakfast, to the bar.

WEEKEND

Downtime calls for a lighter colour palette and relaxed shapes. Invest in a boyfriend blazer in a neutral colour and pair it back with denim, or use it to break-up all black outfits during the week. Have you ever tried boyfriend shorts? We highly recommend – they’re flattering, comfortable and we reckon they’re going to blow up this year.

WORK

Get creative with your styling to up your style game at the office. Try layering a fitted top over a white shirt, or add a statement belt around your waste to make your look more interesting (we love wearing a belt over our blazers, too!). There are many ways to wear a white shirt, experiment with buttoning it right up, rolling the sleeves, or leaving a few buttons undone.

AFTER DARK

A blazer in a silky fabric with nothing underneath makes a chic statement after dark. Add a bit of sparkle to your earlobes and you’re in business. Sorry, did someone say “Dry Jan”?
