Preparing for fashion week is like getting ready for a special event – five consecutive days in a row.
Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (aka MBFWA) involved a lot more than attending shows for me this time around so time (and sleep!) were very limited. This meant I needed to be extremely organised with a well thought-out schedule and outfits at the ready.
To plan my fashion week wardrobe, I started by deciding what ‘vibe’ I was in the mood for this year, and ‘laid back elegance’ was the G O.
Next, I decided on a colour palette. I wanted it to feel like my normal day-to-day style – but elevated. Black, white, denim and injections of dusty pink made-up 90% of my looks for the week, and lipstick added the finishing touch to every look.
Lipstick has become my favourite accessory – I literally never leave home without wearing it. I love how it helps to tie everything together and it can completely change the overall feel of an outfit.
A beautiful nude shade like Estée Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick in ‘Raw Sugar‘ (pictured left) or ‘Naked City‘ (seen below in video) is my go to. I smudge it just beyond my lip line by pressing my lips together which instantly creates the illusion of fuller lips.
A great outfit is all about balance – so if I’m wearing sneakers, I’ll add statement drop earrings to dress it up.
If it’s heading into the evening I usually go for a deeper lipstick shade like ‘Love Object‘ (which I wore to the Dion Lee show and dinner on opening night of MBFWA – see below!).
Finally, if I’m still not 100% sure about my outfit, I’ll take a picture on my phone in the mirror to check – it’s way easier to tell if your outfit’s lacking something (like earrings or a statement lip!).
