What To Shop

The Colours Every Fashion Girl Has In Her Wardrobe

Consider this your ultimate shopping guide for stepping over to the bright side.

I know we’ve said it before, but in case you missed it – stark minimalism is on its way out.

Colour is slowly seeping its way back into our daily wardrobes and we’re more than ok with it.

The key is knowing which colours work for you and which ones don’t.

Once you’ve figured that part out, the next challenge is working out your wardrobe’s colour palette, so your colour pieces all work in harmony and you’re not just stuck with that one yellow top you can’t wear with anything. Think of it as senior art (the sartorial semester) for grown ups.

As a general rule, we’ve been mixing our favourite hues back with denim and neutrals (think white, beige and tan).

On our recent shoot with Witchery, we noticed they’d pretty much nailed the fashion-girl colour palette with their new collection, so we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite pieces (as well as a couple of wish list items) to help you ease yourself back into wearing colour below.

BABY BLUE

Every woman needs a crisp white button-up, and a baby blue boyfriend shirt. Picture this paired with your favourite pair of blue jeans. MMM DREAMY.

BABY BLUE

YELLOW

Once the colour we'd never caught dead in, but suddenly the colour we can't get enough of. We're wearing ours tucked into white or cream wide leg trousers.

YELLOW

GOLD

Add a touch of of gold OTT bling for instant Italiano vibes.

GOLD

RED

Red is our personal favourite - wear it with white, black, denim, grey, navy, tan... who said colour wasn't versatile?

RED

LILAC

If bright colours don't float your boat, try adding a hint of a more subdued hue like lilac to your outfit. Layer this dreamy bra under an oversized white linen shirt so it just peeks out.

LILAC

CREAM

Not exactly a colour, but worth a mention. Cream jeans are it right now (and they make it oh so easy to wear any other colours in your wardrobe!).

CREAM

BURNT ORANGE

The ultimate 'grown up' way to do colour. Wear this with sleek black trousers and brogues for instant office cool.

BURNT ORANGE

PASTELS

Pastels are so hawt right now. Add a pop of colour to your outfit with these babies. Mix and match them back with other colours if you dare, or wear them with a chic all-white ensemble.

PASTELS

KHAKI

Everyone's wearing it head-to-toe these days (just sayin'). If that's too much for you, wear it with neutrals or dark blue denim.

KHAKI

SILVER

Mixing metals is kewl (and it cancels-out the struggle of sticking to just silver or gold). This bag is the perfect parter in crime for the colours in your wardrobe because its will literally go with anything (and its not as heavy as black).

SILVER

PINK

Pastel pink, dusty pink, millennial pink.. call it what you will. This is our second favourite colour right now (after red). Actually, we like them even more when paired together.
