What To Shop

The Ultimate Intern Shopping List

Today is where your book begins, the rest is still unwritten.

So you’ve landed that *dream* internship that’s bound to kick-start your #careergoals, but no one ever said interning was easy.

The #1 rule is to come prepared and take-on any task with a smile.

A clutch that will (at a stretch) fit your phone, keys and loose change will certainly not do when all of a sudden you have a mountain of pickups to collect on foot. Carrying lots of anything in plastic bags will leave the ugliest marks + chronic aches that won’t go away until next Monday (if you’re lucky).

If only someone had told you to bring an (actual) bag….

You’ll most likely be assigned a mash-up of wondrous tasks which might require you to BYO some of the below.

These items have helped us and no doubt will help you. Whether it’s the chic wide-leg pants to cover your crotch (because you might find yourself sitting on the floor of a fashion cupboard) or the Nike sneakers that look good (and make your feet feel good) – we guarantee they will all ‘work’ in your favour and let the office know you’re a keeper.

Trust us, practicality and hard work will get you further in the fashion industry than having a ‘great sense of personal style.’

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

THE TEE

A designer logo tee will look great under a suit or overalls. It will subtly let everyone know that you have style and taste without being over the top. Plus, it's easy to throw on so you can focus on work and not have to worry about your outfit.

THE PANTS

Cover your crotch. Seriously. You might have to sit on the floor and you'll probably find yourself bending down a lot to pack and tidy the fashion cupboard. These will smarten up t-shirts and look cool with blouses.

THE SNEAKERS

Do not wear heels. Do not wear your dirty, old runners either. You will often be on the move and on your feet. Something monochrome and classic is a safe bet to make sure you still look put together.

THE FACE

No cake face necessary, stick to the basics and keep it on you for touch-ups on the go. You are representing yourself as well as the company so you should make an effort.

THE STAPLER

The ability to attach things is surprisingly useful as an intern. Whether it is paper documents or labels you'll find yourself needing one more than you ever will at any other point in your life. Bringing your own means, you don't have to interrupt your boss during business calls to borrow theirs.

THE NOTEBOOK(S)

You don't want to forget any task you've been given, and there's something super satisfying about crossing everything off as you go. Plus it's great to write down any ideas you have as you'll constantly be inspired.

THE COLLARED SHIRT

The classic white shirt's cooler little sister. Throw it under a jumpsuit or half tuck it into any pants. This will smarten up sneakers and allow you to get away with denim in the office.

THE JUMPSUIT

The 3 essential C's - comfortable, chic and cool. Plus it can be worn many ways, which is great when you're on a small budget. Layer it over shirts and tees or throw a blazer over it. If you have to attend events straight from your intenship, you can rock it solo.
