How To

9 Easy Ways To Reinvent Your Denim Right Now

The possibilities are endless, yo.

It’s no secret that denim is one of our favourite wardrobe staples here at CHRONICLES HQ.

We wear it all year round – no matter what season it is. In fact, we’ve pretty much found a way to wear denim 24/7 (seriously, have you seen this post?!).

And when it comes to shopping, we’ll always have room for another pair. We’re also eternally on the hunt for the perfect pair of vintage Levi’s jeans (FYI, here‘s a list of places we’ve found them so far).

Oh, and our stats tell us you love denim too, so to celebrate this almighty wardrobe hero, we’re making this DENIM WEEK on CHRONICLES OF HER – kicking-off with this HOW TO on 9 new ways to style your denim back with your current wardrobe.

Have a scroll, get Pinning, go shopping (whatever floats your boat really) and check back this week for our ultimate guide to denim (including the most flattering brands and styles, and where to find them!).

DIY your denim

If you’re over all your denim but don’t have the $$$ to invest in new pieces – it’s time to get creative. Convert old jeans into shorts and fray the edges (see our step-by-step HOW TO here) or experiment with dyes or bleach to achieve a new wash.

Dare to double denim

Don’t be shy – the Canadian tuxedo can be oh so cool. To pull it off, go for similar denim tones paired-back with classic wardrobe staples like a black skivvy or a white tee (this will keep it looking clean and chic). Accessorise with a belt (to break it up) and your favourite shades.

'Dress' it up

Try layering a dress or tunic over your jeans for a completely new look. Bonus tip: asymmetric styles work well (but this one’s all about trial and error!).

Gettin' shirty

Boyfriend shirts and jeans are a match made in heaven. The shape and fit of the shirt can completely change the outcome. A fitted, buttoned-up shirt full tucked in reads ‘preppy cool’, while an oversized shirt half-tucked reads ‘put-together without trying’. Not sure where to start? See five different ways to wear a white shirt here.

Tied and true

For more casual vibes, try tying your shirt up in a knot (à la Coachella). If you’re knot so keen to show your midriff (see what we did there), pair it with high-waisted denim styles.

'Patch' work

Embroidery is everything right now, and the best part is it’s easy to DIY. Get yourself some cute motifs (like these) and customise your denim with a couple on the pockets. Or if you can’t be bothered, here’s 11 embroidered items you can shop right now.

Scarf...ace (LOL)

We ran out of good headlines, but you’ll never run out of cool ways to pair a scarf with your denim. Tie it into a neckerchief, wrap it around your hair, put it through your belt holes or tie it around your bag – it’s the quickest way to dress-up denim and a tee.

Brighten up

Sure, white, grey and black always look great with denim, but consider pairing it back with bright colours for something different. We love a pop of red under dark denim, or multi-coloured stripes like this outfit Carmen wore.

Logo lovin'

This might just be our favourite way to wear denim right now – grab a graphic tee (here‘s our favourites) and you’re good to go. Heading out? A black blazer thrown over the top will instantly elevate your look. Add a pair of pumps and statement earrings and voilà!
