I Wanted To Change My Style So I Did… Here’s How

These 4 small changes have made a HUGE impact.

When it comes to my wardrobe, my hair (wait – maybe my life in general?)… I can be impulsive, but I wouldn’t classify it as a ‘bad’ character trait.

Constant change keeps me feeling motivated and creative. When my outfits start feeling repetitive and lacklustre, I feel a bit ‘meh’ in general. Not because I have retail therapy withdrawals, but because I always like to feel like I’m moving forward – pushing boundaries and challenging myself to try new things.

It’s why I relaunched CHRONICLES OF HER late last year and I guess you could say it’s the driving force behind my new hair.

But this new short, dark brunette bob with bangs has brought about more change than I anticipated – I feel like a different person! I think it gives these pieces from Chloe’s new capsule collection for NET-A-PORTER a tougher tomboy edge (whereas my textured blonde hair would’ve made it more beachy).

So if you’re in the mood for a change (maybe to tie-in with the new season?) then try one (or all!) of the below for an instant style update.

Let’s start with the most obvious one – a daring hair change will definitely spice things up. I went all or nothing, but you don’t have to go that far. Try a fringe, a shade lighter or darker, a more ‘blunt’ cut, or more texture. Spend some time collating references – I spent a lot of time trawling Instagram and filing hair I like in my ‘Saved’ posts. The more the better – someone’s hair can look different in every picture, so save as many as you can.

The key here is to find a pretty specific new influence to subtly filter into your wardrobe. At the moment I’m going for feminine French vibes – so this floaty blouse is perfect.

This obviously doesn’t mean changing your whole wardrobe, but adding one or two pieces that you can mix back with things you already own. You’ll be surprised how much this small change (potentially pared with updated hair?) will make you feel different.

No money? No problem. Finding cool new and inventive ways to wear things I already own is one of my favourite ways to breathe new life into my wardrobe. E.g. wearing an oversized boyfriend shirt off the shoulders (thank you Victoria Houllis for the idea). Instagram and CHRONICLES’ STREET 365 section holds endless inspiration here, and if you haven’t tried these 9 outfit hacks using things you already own yet – you should!

Include everything from interiors, to scenery, to editorials and images that just convey a certain ‘mood’ you like. Again, I’ve been doing this in my ‘Saved’ posts on Instagram. I find it really helps inform your wardrobe purchases when you have a visual cue to go off.

Great ideas! Maybe you can post cheaper alternatives as many of us can not afford a shirt that costs more than the house payment.

  • Spring is about rebirth. Redefining yourself is often a challenge, change and evolution are life.
No one wakes up with a fully formed style it can take years to come to your own fashion persona.

Love this post! Your bag is amazing x

  • LOVE THE NEW HAIR! Having said that, I use the exact same technics when it comes to sourcing out for inspiration. The images I save on my Instagram are definitely a non-stop-scrolling-necessity when I need to get dressed. Also Pinterest helps me accumulate inspiring images and, of course, drawing out mood boards in my computer and printing them out. Another thing I always find revitalizes my spirit and mood is traveling. Even though I don’t do it often, when I do, it always leaves me feeling refreshed. Or even exploring the city you’re living in. Loads of inspo on the streets. Great post Carmen! Xx

  • The hair seriously looks amazing on you and I love your whole outfit so much!!!
